Winter Tournament

On the 16th and 17th of August the annual Winter Tournament happened. This year B.I.S was hosting it. Schools all over the top of the south competed in the winter tournament. The sports in the winter tournament included rugby, basketball, table tennis, hockey, netball, badminton, soccer and volleyball. B.I.S did very well in the winter tournament. The boys basketball team got second, the girls basketball team got first, the rugby team got first in 15 aside and first in seven aside and B.I.S also got lots more good placings.

The boys rugby teams were lucky to get some games because it was originally going to be canceled because of wet conditions but Mr.T did some quick thinking and the tournament started again. The kids that didn’t get into the Winter Tournament played games and did tech rotations all day.

Modules - Knitting

In Knitting as a module half of our class did it because Billy did it last term. He said to us that you didn’t have to do any learning intentions or writing so most of the boys and a couple of girls from our class decided to sign up for knitting.

We ran around the field while Connor and Ben set up the game, then we got into two teams and started the game. We had a lot of fun running round the court, catching balls and batting a tennis ball.

Tech Classes - Hard Materials

Last term in tech I did hard materials with Mr. Swain. He taught us how to sand, use the big drill, poker work burner,a power drill and lots of other tools. He also taught us how to make lots of stuff like, chopping boards, boxes, kitchen thingees and lots of other handy things.Near the end of the term he gave us free time to make anything we wanted unless it wasn’t a weapon. Kameran and I made a windkart but other people made tanks and trucks and lots of other things. Mr. Swain wouldn’t let you pass until it was smooth and had no pencil marks. So that's hard materials for you.

What I did for tech was wood work. I enjoyed my last time at wood work very much. The wooden spoon we made was very useful for my mum in the kitchen. I enjoyed making the pull along toy duck the most though. Wood work is great for making gifts for your whole family. Mr Swain is a great, funny and cool teacher. I will miss him and wood work at BIS very much.

Responsibility - Term 2 Virtue Focus

Responsibility is when you can manage yourself, time and your actions. To be responsible you have to have good manners and a good attitude and be on time. You have to get all your work that has been assigned done and handed in on time. Being responsible is taking care of your thing, peers and yourself.

The Climbing Wall, last day of school, Term 1

Today room 6 went rock climbing for the first time this year. We all got turns at climbing and being belay 1 and belay 2. First Mr J showed us how to belay and some safety tips. It would be dangerous if we didn’t know how to b-lay because if we didn’t we could injure the climber. Some of us got lifted off the ground, that’s why it’s important to have a belay 2.  We didn’t go up to the top because today we just learnt how to belay because that’s the most important thing about rock climbing. There are different stages of the climbing wall, it goes from easy to hard. Next time we all want to be able to at least do a harder one. Next time we’re focusing on trying to get as high as possible and Mr J is still going to come and help us but that’s the last time he will help us. We had loads of fun! :)

Bridge Valley Team Building Day, March 2012

On Monday 19th March, Room 6 went to Bridge Valley for the day. We all got put in cars. It didn’t take that long. We had a little look around when we got there. Cliff and Ronnie got us all together and told us what activities we were doing, which were high ropes, raft challenge and team rescue. Afterwards he put us into three teams. Group one, group two and group three. I was in group two. Group one did high ropes first then to team rescue then raft challenge. The other two groups did what group one wasn’t doing and rotated throughout the day. To be able to do the raft challenge you had to have really good team work and building skills, which my team didn’t really have for this certain one.
